Sustainability Consultant (ESG)

What you will do

• Manage day-to-day relationships with institutional investors, fund managers and asset managers, presenting technical findings and recommendations to investment committees.
• Deliver GRESB Real Estate Assessments at fund and entity level, including gap analyses, improvement roadmaps, data collection and post-results reporting.
• Design and operate data quality assurance processes covering energy, water, waste and GHG information.
• Advise on BREEAM In-Use strategy, evidence requirements, certification and rating improvements; coordinate assessors and conduct site surveys.
• Assess capital and operational interventions with RLB cost management colleagues and contribute to bids, proposals, pricing, tools and methodologies.

Requirements

• Approximately four years of experience in a client-facing consultancy role, ideally in real estate, sustainability or the built environment.
• Direct experience with institutional investors, fund managers or asset managers, including understanding fund structures, asset-manager responsibilities and LP priorities.
• Strong hands-on GRESB experience across multiple submissions, including scoring architecture, data coverage, landlord/tenant boundaries, like-for-like reporting and validation.
• Strong BREEAM In-Use experience, including the current scheme version, evidence requirements and certification process.
• Experience managing independent workstreams and deadlines with limited supervision.
• Excellent client management skills, commercial judgment and the ability to defend technical positions, concede appropriately and escalate when needed.
• Strong data handling skills, including advanced Excel and large, imperfect utility datasets.
• Clear written communication for reports, memos and board-level summaries aimed at non-technical readers.
• High integrity in handling evidence and data, with advice able to withstand assurance, audit and investor scrutiny; relevant degree or equivalent demonstrable experience.

Nice to have

• Licensed BREEAM In-Use Assessor status.
• Experience with Fitwel, SKA, BREEAM New Construction, or Refurbishment & Fit-Out.
• Net-zero pathways, CRREM analysis, stranding risk, transition planning, embodied or whole-life carbon assessment.
• Climate risk, TCFD/ISSB-aligned assessments, and familiarity with SFDR, EU Taxonomy, CSRD or UK SRS.
• ESG transaction due diligence, ESG data platforms or ESG components of INREV DDQs.
• IEMA or RICS membership or progression towards membership; European market exposure or a second European language.
