Senior Space Mission Software Engineer (Python)

Location: On-site in El Segundo, California, United States. Employees must be lawfully authorized to work in the U.S. and qualify as a U.S. person for access to export-controlled technology.

Salary: $169,000–$216,000 annually, plus potential stock options.

What you will do

• Develop and maintain high-reliability services for telemetry ingestion, scaling, distribution, and spacecraft commanding.
• Build operator-grade mission control interfaces and dashboards for integration, testing, and on-orbit operations.
• Create flight-software simulations, device emulators, scenario-based automated tests, and hardware-in-the-loop tooling.
• Design and productionize mission-platform tooling, including CI/CD pipelines, artifact management, service templates, infrastructure-as-code, test harnesses, and observability.
• Develop deployment patterns for lab benches, test stands, and mission networks, including safe rollout, rollback, and air-gapped deployment approaches.
• Collaborate hands-on with flight software, avionics, RF and ground systems, GNC, and mission operations teams.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in computer science, mathematics, physics, engineering, or equivalent technical experience in safety-critical software.
• At least 5 years of experience developing spacecraft or comparable safety-critical software.
• Expertise in Python and strong understanding of concurrency, networking, performance, and reliability.
• Experience building real-time data acquisition, scaling, and distribution services using low-latency messaging, time-series stores, and relational databases.
• Hands-on experience with CI/CD, dependency and build systems, infrastructure-as-code, logging, metrics, and tracing.
• Experience with Docker, Kubernetes, release management, phased rollouts, and operational readiness for controlled networks.

Nice to have

• Proficiency in C++, Ansible, or NiceGUI.
• Experience with data acquisition, closed-loop control, and lab or test-control environments.
• Experience integrating CI, testing, simulation, or data tools with flight-software teams.
• Knowledge of safety-critical requirements, testing, certification artifacts, ground-system standards, or mission-network security.
• Experience building mission-grade UIs with structured command workflows, alarming, and situational awareness.
