Principal Applications Engineer (Java/Go)

Location: 100% remote within the United States

Salary: $100,000–$140,000 annually

What you will do

• Lead enterprise-wide architectural initiatives and define long-term technology strategy.
• Design and deliver highly scalable, resilient distributed systems for production environments.
• Drive strategic engineering and architectural decisions across multiple teams, platforms, and business units.
• Apply performance engineering, system optimization, data modeling, and reliability architecture practices.
• Serve as a technical authority and mentor senior engineers while helping shape engineering culture.

Requirements

• Must be based in the United States for this fully remote role.
• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science or a related discipline.
• 10+ years of professional software engineering experience.
• Proven experience designing high-scale distributed systems in production.
• Advanced proficiency in Java, Go, C++, or a similar backend language.
• Strong expertise in data modeling, performance tuning, reliability engineering, enterprise architecture, technical leadership, communication, and mentoring.

Nice to have

• Public technical contributions such as papers, talks, or open-source leadership.
• Experience driving multi-year transformation programs.
• Familiarity with FinOps and large-scale cost optimization.
• Exposure to regulated industries including financial services, healthcare, or government.
• Advanced degree or equivalent industry recognition.
