Principal Systems/Software Engineer Cloud & On-Premise Software Development (Cloud Security)

Location: San Juan, Puerto Rico; hybrid, with an average requirement of two days per week from an HPE office. Relocation support is provided for eligible candidates.

What you will do

• Own multiple core software modules end-to-end for cloud-native and on-premises security management products.
• Design organization-wide software architectures and development methodologies across platforms and engineering organizations.
• Lead cross-functional engineering initiatives, provide technical direction, and influence architectural decisions.
• Evaluate technologies, innovations, and outsourced development relationships for alignment with the technology roadmap.
• Review designs and project activities against development standards, improving product quality and reducing failure risk.
• Coach and mentor engineers while promoting best practices, knowledge sharing, automated testing, and high-quality delivery.

Requirements

• Typically 10+ years of experience in software systems design and development.
• Experience building cloud products with microservices architecture and extensive knowledge of cloud applications and technologies.
• Excellent analytical, problem-solving, software debugging, written communication, and verbal communication skills.
• Experience designing and developing software systems, design tools, languages, and overall product architectures.
• Experience designing and integrating software systems running on multiple platform types into an overall architecture.
• Experience collaborating in globally distributed, cross-geography engineering teams across multiple time zones and cultures.
• Ability to write robust unit tests, improve code coverage through automation, validate functionality, and document and execute functional test cases before QA handoff.
• Hands-on experience across several listed technology areas, with the ability to adapt to adjacent domains: Go 1.24+, Java with Spring Boot/Spring Framework or Jakarta EE, PostgreSQL or equivalent databases, Elasticsearch, gRPC, Protocol Buffers, REST, and OpenAPI/Swagger.
• Experience with Apache Kafka, Redis-based queues, Docker, Kubernetes and Kubernetes client libraries, Prometheus, distributed tracing, structured logging with SLF4J/Logback, Ambassador or an equivalent load balancer, Bazel, Maven, Helm, OAuth2, SAML, JWT, and Jenkins CI/CD.
• Multiple patents or deployed software design solutions demonstrating innovation.
• Mastery in English and the local language.
• Ability to communicate product architectures and design proposals and negotiate options with business-unit and executive stakeholders.
• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science or Engineering.
