Senior Patent Counsel (Medical Devices)

What you will do

• Prepare timely product clearance opinions for engineers and product development managers.
• File and prosecute patents, trademarks, and copyrights to build the company’s intellectual property portfolio.
• Support licensing and intellectual property acquisition activities involving surgeons, companies, and other entities.
• Assist with intellectual property due diligence for mergers and acquisitions.
• Collaborate with product development, sales, marketing, finance, legal, and administrative groups.
• Help develop and execute intellectual property strategy and portfolio planning across technical divisions.

Requirements

• Juris Doctorate.
• At least eight years of experience in product clearances, patent procurement and prosecution, and related areas.
• Admission to at least one state bar and the patent bar, with willingness to be admitted to the Pennsylvania bar or obtain a Pennsylvania in-house counsel license.
• Strong analytical, written, oral communication, organizational, and client-service skills.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a deadline-driven environment while maintaining business confidentiality.
• Ability and willingness to travel occasionally.

Nice to have

• Undergraduate or graduate degree in electrical or mechanical engineering.
• Experience with software, robotics, medical imaging, or electrical/electromechanical medical products.
• Transactional experience in due diligence, licensing, or intellectual property contracts.
• Previous law firm and corporate in-house experience.
