Patent Counsel

What you will do

• Own and execute the patent strategy across invention disclosure, application preparation, prosecution, issuance, and post-grant activities.
• Identify and evaluate inventions in partnership with engineering, product, and business teams.
• Advise product development teams on patentability, patent risk, freedom-to-operate, design-around strategies, and intellectual property opportunities.
• Lead patent searches, clearance investigations, validity assessments, infringement evaluations, and competitive portfolio monitoring.
• Develop prosecution, portfolio, continuation, and competitive blocking strategies aligned with product roadmaps and market conditions.
• Coordinate outside counsel, foreign associates, search firms, licensing matters, disputes, litigation support, and enforcement efforts in the United States and foreign jurisdictions.

Requirements

• JD degree from an ABA-approved law school.
• At least 5 years of patent prosecution experience, including substantial patent drafting experience across mechanical, electrical, and/or software technologies.
• Experience conducting or managing freedom-to-operate analyses and patent clearance investigations.
• Experience advising clients on business aspects of intellectual property matters.
• State bar membership and registration to practice before the USPTO are required.

Nice to have

• Experience advising product development teams on patent risk mitigation and design-around strategies.
• Experience managing foreign patent prosecution and coordinating with international counsel.
• Experience supporting patent licensing, enforcement, litigation, or other contentious intellectual property matters.
