Senior Director, Sr. Corporate Counsel, IP (Biopharma)

Location: Remote/Home-Based for US-based candidates only; listed locations are Palo Alto, California and Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

Base salary: $259,200–$388,800 annually, plus potential bonus, equity, and benefits.

What you will do

• Advise Corporate Development on acquisitions, licensing transactions, collaborations, joint ventures, divestitures, and other strategic opportunities.
• Lead IP due diligence, including freedom-to-operate, portfolio strength, exclusivity, competitive landscape, and material risk assessments.
• Develop and execute global patent strategies for internally developed, acquired, and licensed products and technologies.
• Build and manage patent portfolios from invention capture through prosecution, issuance, and lifecycle management.
• Support transaction documents, valuation, negotiation strategy, integration planning, and portfolio optimization.
• Advise executives and cross-functional stakeholders on IP risks, exclusivity, competitive positioning, litigation, and post-grant proceedings.

Requirements

• Fully qualified US Patent Attorney or Agent with 10+ years of relevant intellectual property experience in the biopharmaceutical industry.
• Substantial in-house experience supporting corporate development, licensing, collaborations, mergers and acquisitions, or other strategic transactions.
• Undergraduate degree in biological sciences, biochemistry, chemistry, or another pharmaceutical, biotechnology, or life sciences discipline; an advanced degree is preferred.
• Expertise in patent portfolio development, lifecycle management, exclusivity strategies, freedom-to-operate analysis, and competitive intelligence.
• Strong written, verbal, presentation, project management, prioritization, and organizational skills.
• Ability to translate complex legal and scientific issues into clear business recommendations for senior executives and collaborate across functions.

Nice to have

• Experience in patent litigation, post-grant proceedings, oppositions, and other adversarial matters.
