TL;DR
Engineering Specialist III - D Shift (Thin-Film Wafer Manufacturing): Supporting thin-film recording-head wafer manufacturing through process control, tool qualification, data analysis, and factory-floor troubleshooting with an accent on SPC interpretation, KPIV trends, and root-cause analysis. Focus on distinguishing equipment, process, and material variation, improving yield and cycle time, and making evidence-based adjustments during the overnight production shift.

Location: Normandale, United States; on-site role. Night shift: 6:30 p.m. to 6:30 a.m. CST, Friday through Sunday and every other Thursday. No travel.

Estimated base wage: $24.04–$34.38 per hour.

Company

hirify.global’s Normandale campus develops and manufactures recording heads, including thin-film wafer products.

What you will do

  • Evaluate tool and wafer datasets using SPC charts, distributions, correlations, trends, and basic statistical testing.
  • Control, optimize, and qualify manufacturing processes by reviewing data and making documented parameter adjustments.
  • Troubleshoot process issues using tool logs, KPIV datasets, wafer parameters, historical baselines, and structured problem-solving methods.
  • Analyze non-conforming wafer, rework, and scrap data to determine root causes and corrective actions.
  • Support yield improvement, scrap reduction, cycle-time enhancement, production trials, experiments, and manual runs.
  • Train new technicians, improve process documentation, and provide clear shift-to-shift engineering handoffs.

Requirements

  • 2–4 years of related experience, preferably in thin-film wafer manufacturing or manufacturing engineering support.
  • Experience interpreting tool logs, SPC platforms, engineering dashboards, and KPIV trends.
  • Ability to manipulate and analyze data using Excel, JMP, Minitab, or equivalent tools.
  • Understanding of basic statistics, variability, quantitative reasoning, and structured root-cause analysis.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to document findings and communicate across experience levels.
  • Ability to work the specified overnight CST schedule on-site in Normandale, United States.

Nice to have

  • AA/AAS degree or comparable experience with wafer production equipment.
  • Ability to recognize when a process is statistically in control but not capable.
  • Experience performing first-level analytical investigations before escalation.
  • Familiarity with evolving data systems and digital manufacturing workflows.

Culture & Benefits

  • Medical, dental, vision, life insurance, and short- and long-term disability coverage for eligible employees.
  • 401(k), employee stock purchase plan, discretionary bonus eligibility, and flexible spending accounts.
  • Paid time off including 12 holidays, 120 hours of vacation, at least 48 hours of paid sick leave, and 16 weeks of paid parental leave.
  • On-site café, fitness center, wellness programs, meditation rooms, indoor walking path, cultural events, and volunteer opportunities.
  • Health and safety policies must be followed throughout the role.
