Lead Electrical Engineer (Nuclear Energy)

Location: Torrance, California, United States. Applicants must be legally authorized to work in the United States as a U.S. citizen or lawful permanent resident.

Salary: $196,000–$240,000 USD annually.

What you will do

• Build and lead the Electrical Engineering team, including defining roles, hiring, onboarding, performance management, and career development.
• Own electrical engineering delivery across reactor, nuclear fuel manufacturing, power generation, and power distribution scopes.
• Own the plant electrical architecture across HV utility interconnection and switchyard, generator integration, MV distribution, LV systems, emergency power, and DC/UPS systems.
• Direct and approve load flow, short-circuit, arc-flash, protection-coordination, grounding, and other power system studies.
• Lead utility, authority having jurisdiction, regulator, vendor, interdisciplinary design review, HAZOP, and licensing-support activities.
• Coordinate electrical interfaces, technical risks, resourcing, sequencing, vendor packages, and nuclear-quality engineering records.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a closely related discipline.
• 10+ years of electrical engineering experience in power generation, utility, process, or industrial projects.
• Experience directly leading and building an electrical engineering team through hiring, work direction, technical review, and engineer development.
• Substantial power generation experience with generator integration, excitation, generator and interconnection protection, GSU transformers, switchyards or substations, and grid interconnection.
• Design proficiency across LV, MV, and HV systems, with expert-level power system analysis using SKM Power Tools, ETAP, PSS/E, or equivalent.
• Experience owning electrical scope from front-end design through energisation and commissioning, with strong knowledge of NEC/NFPA 70, IEEE, NEMA, ANSI, and IEC standards.

Nice to have

• Professional Engineer registration or equivalent.
• Utility interconnection leadership, including interconnection agreements and PPA technical interfaces.
• Nuclear facility electrical experience, including IEEE 384, Class 1E concepts, NQA-1, or 10 CFR 50 Appendix B programs.
• Generator protection, synchronization, black start, islanded operation, IEC 61850, emergency power, DC systems, and battery-sizing experience.
• Experience building electrical organizations and standards for first-of-a-kind, prototype, or early-stage plant programs.
