TL;DR
Director, Engineering & Capital Projects (Facilities Engineering and Construction): Planning, designing, and delivering institutional capital projects and physical improvements from concept through occupancy with an accent on campus master planning, regulatory compliance, construction management, and project budgets. Focus on managing multi-million-dollar construction projects, commissioning engineered systems, and leading the Engineering & Technical Services office.
Location: Full-time onsite in Bar Harbor, Maine, United States, with travel to other JAX campuses as needed.
Salary: $136,461–$228,467 annually, based on total years of related experience.

What you will do
- Develop and maintain the campus master plan based on institutional program and growth needs.
- Lead capital projects from feasibility analysis and programming through design, bidding, construction, close-out, and occupancy.
- Manage project budgets, estimates, bids, contracts, construction administration, and site observations.
- Ensure compliance with state and federal regulations, building codes, and JAX planning, design, and construction procedures.
- Coordinate engineered-system installation and commissioning with Facilities Management teams.
- Manage the Engineering & Technical Services office, including staffing, supervision, training, goal setting, and performance evaluation.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Architecture, Engineering, or a directly related field.
- 15+ years of Facilities Engineering or Planning experience in an industrial or institutional setting, including 5 years in a technical supervisory role.
- Experience developing programming and planning documents, managing design processes and project budgets, overseeing multi-million-dollar construction projects, and conducting construction field observations.
- Strong understanding of architectural, mechanical, electrical, structural, and civil systems, building codes, industry standards, and construction contracts.
- Strong decision-making, analytical, interpersonal, and communication skills.
- Proficiency with MS Windows, AutoCAD, MS Office, MS Project or Primavera, Timberline, e-Builder, or similar facilities and project-management software.
Nice to have
- AIA or PE registration, or the ability to become registered within 12 months.
- Construction experience in an institutional research environment.
- Knowledge of statutes applicable to California, Connecticut, Florida, and Maine.
