Director of Global Facilities Engineering & Center of Excellence (Medical Devices)

Location: San Diego, California, United States; full-time onsite role

Base salary: $187,400–$281,000 per year, plus eligible bonus or commission, potential equity, and benefits.

What you will do

• Define the global engineering and project management vision, strategy, standards, processes, metrics, and governance.
• Lead facilities engineering and project management Centers of Excellence supporting infrastructure, utilities, preventive maintenance, fire and life safety, capital projects, LEED, and sustainability initiatives.
• Build, mentor, and develop a global technical organization and SME-led workstreams focused on operational efficiency, quality, compliance, and best practices.
• Oversee facility design, maintenance, validation, qualification, commissioning, construction, and capital projects, ensuring schedule, budget, quality, safety, and regulatory compliance.
• Partner with Facilities, Real Estate, EHS, Workplace Strategy, Procurement, IT, HR, Finance, Global Operations, and R&D leaders on site plans, design standards, contracting, and technology solutions.
• Develop total-cost-of-ownership models, manage budgets and project costs, investigate engineering challenges, and maintain audit-ready change controls.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree typically required, with at least 18 years of related experience and 10 or more years of management experience.
• Experience with project commissioning, facility validation, global organization and Center of Excellence development, and standardized processes and technology solutions.
• Experience managing large-scale capital projects and facilities for laboratories, cold storage, controlled environments, and GMP facilities.
• Deep practical understanding of FDA cGMP regulations for facilities and utilities supporting medical device manufacturing, with direct FDA experience desired.
• Experience with CMMS, IWMS, SAP, EAM, or enterprise work-order management systems is required; change control and calibration experience is preferred.
• Strong budgeting, procurement, contracting, communication, leadership, prioritization, and cross-functional collaboration skills.

• Engineering or project management certifications.
