TL;DR
Executive Director, Scientific Publications (Oncology) (Scientific Publications/Oncology): Leading publication planning and execution for Exelixis development compounds, including abstracts, posters, oral presentations, and manuscripts, with an accent on cross-functional coordination, compliance, and publication vendor oversight. Focus on managing the Publications function, developing publication plans, supervising staff, and communicating complex medical and scientific data.

Location: Alameda, California, United States; periodic travel of approximately 20% is required for scientific congresses, company meetings, and oversight of external organizations.

Base salary: $273,000–$388,000 annually, varying by U.S. geographic market.

What you will do

  • Lead the Scientific Publications function, including team organization, hiring, employee development, and staff supervision.
  • Oversee publication planning for ongoing development compounds, including scientific platforms and publication plans.
  • Coordinate cross-functional input, alignment, and collaboration with alliance partners and Medical Affairs stakeholders.
  • Oversee execution of abstracts, posters, oral presentations, and manuscripts, contributing to concept development, data analysis, writing, and editing as needed.
  • Manage publication vendors, including selection, contracts, and budgets.
  • Oversee publication portals, archives, SOPs, and internal review and approval processes in accordance with Good Publication Practice.

Requirements

  • Doctorate-level degree with at least 15 years of related experience, or a master's degree with at least 16 years, or a bachelor's degree with at least 18 years, or an equivalent combination.
  • Significant experience in publication development, writing, and management.
  • Experience in the pharmaceutical or biotechnology industry and understanding of related regulations, standards, and practices.
  • Ability to lead initiatives, manage projects and people, and work effectively across functions.
  • Strong medical and technical writing skills, including communication of complex medical and scientific data to varied audiences.
  • Familiarity with healthcare compliance principles and the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
