Pay range: $98,885–$165,555 per year, based on years of experience.

What you will do

  • Direct clinical care for sick and injured mice and provide biomethods or surgical training to staff.
  • Serve as a veterinary member of the Animal Care and Use Committee, including protocol review and policy writing.
  • Respond to employee and customer concerns about mouse care, use, health, and welfare.
  • Collaborate on research studies, including data analysis and reporting.
  • Investigate unusual clinical cases and known or suspected infectious diseases with pathologists and biosecurity specialists.
  • Sign and negotiate animal health certificates and support regulatory compliance and AAALACi accreditation.

Requirements

  • DVM or VMD degree.
  • U.S. license to practice veterinary medicine and qualifications for applicable state licensure and USDA accreditation.
  • At least two years of experience as a laboratory animal veterinarian.
  • Ability to interpret technical specifications, laws, and codes related to regulatory compliance.
  • Strong judgment, organization, communication, problem-solving, and independent decision-making skills.
  • Ability to travel up to 10% of the time.

Nice to have

  • Completion of a laboratory animal residency program.
  • Board eligibility or certification in a relevant veterinary specialty, such as ACLAM.
