Senior SQL Server Production DBA (Healthcare)

Location: Remote. Structured around UK working hours with at least 4 hours of overlap with US Eastern Time.

What you will do

• Own the health, performance, security, and lifecycle of SQL Server databases across production, staging, and development environments.
• Design backup and recovery strategies, run restore tests, and maintain RPO and RTO targets.
• Respond to Sev-1 and Sev-2 database incidents, lead root cause analysis, and implement permanent fixes.
• Monitor wait statistics, index fragmentation, resource-intensive queries, database growth, storage, and I/O capacity.
• Review and safely apply SQL schema and data changes across customer environments while maintaining version control and change history.
• Automate environment provisioning, database cloning, integrity checks, backups, and deployments through scripts, runbooks, and lightweight DevOps pipelines.

Requirements

• 5+ years of administering SQL Server 2016–2022 in 24×7 production environments, including on-premise and cloud-hosted setups.
• Strong knowledge of backup and restore, index maintenance, performance tuning, and HA/DR solutions such as Availability Groups, log shipping, or mirroring.
• Proficiency in T-SQL and scripting with PowerShell or Bash.
• Experience with large datasets, table partitioning, and archival strategies for tables containing 100M+ rows.
• Ability to troubleshoot blocking, deadlocks, timeouts, and other performance issues with development and support teams.
• Ability to overlap at least 4 hours with US Eastern Time.

Nice to have

• Experience with healthcare or EHR systems and HIPAA or HITECH regulations.
• Microsoft SQL Server certification.
