Senior Safety Software Engineer (Robotics)

Location: Fully remote within the United States, with an option to work hybrid from commutable distance to offices in Salem, Oregon; Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania; or Fremont, California. Applicants must have current authorization to work in the United States.

Salary: $175,000–$274,000 USD annually.

What you will do

• Design and implement robust, highly reliable software for safety-critical systems.
• Apply traditional functional safety techniques and emerging deep learning safety techniques.
• Collaborate with machine learning, hardware, and core software teams to keep data pipelines, models, and middleware within defined safety envelopes.
• Develop and optimize software running on Linux and real-time operating systems.
• Create testing frameworks and validation strategies for edge-case reliability and safety scenarios.
• Mentor junior engineers on safety-critical coding standards and best practices.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Computer or Electrical Engineering, Robotics, or a related field.
• 5+ years of professional software engineering experience focused on systems-level or embedded programming with C++, C, or Rust.
• Strong understanding of embedded software architecture.
• Excellent problem-solving skills and a strong focus on quality and reliability.
• Current authorization to work in the United States is required.

Nice to have

• Board bring-up experience with alpha hardware, including operating-system setup and development-environment establishment.
• Experience with camera and LiDAR perception systems.
• Experience writing formally certified safety-critical code and applying ISO 26262, IEC 61508, or ISO 13849.
• Experience architecting robotic applications with ROS 2 and developing machine learning pipelines.
• Linux kernel, QNX or other RTOS, and modern CI/CD experience.
