Engineering Specialist, Software - Relocation Assistance Provided (Embedded Systems)

Location: Round Lake, Illinois, United States; flexible workplace policy with a required minimum number of onsite days per week

Salary: $168,000–$231,000 annually, plus potential discretionary bonuses

What you will do

• Lead software projects across multiple medical-device products throughout the full product lifecycle, from concept and design through regulatory approval, launch, maintenance, and discontinuation.
• Own software roadmaps covering sustaining engineering, new product development, and exploratory initiatives.
• Develop and improve software processes, tools, governance, and engineering best practices with software leaders across the organization.
• Provide technical leadership, mentorship, and development for software team members.
• Assess software health, technical risks, vulnerabilities, and escalations, and lead risk-reduction and continuous-improvement efforts.
• Communicate software risks and regulatory developments to technical, business, and regulatory stakeholders while contributing to the organization’s software vision.

Requirements

• BS in computer science, engineering, mathematics, information management, or a related field, plus 12+ years of industry experience.
• 5+ years of experience in healthcare or medical devices.
• Deep understanding of ARM Cortex architectures for embedded systems; familiarity with STM32 hardware is beneficial.
• Expertise in software best practices across the product-development lifecycle, including design controls, risk management, and regulatory guidance.
• Experience with C/C++, Shell scripting, GitHub configuration management, software quality tools such as Coverity, and RTOS, specifically FreeRTOS.
