TL;DR
Supplier Development Engineer (Space Technology): Building and sustaining a flight-quality aerospace supplier base for autonomous spacecraft, advanced payloads, and space hardware with an accent on supplier qualification, quality programs, lean implementation, and supply-chain resilience. Focus on conducting technical audits, resolving supplier non-conformances, developing dual-source strategies, and aligning supplier readiness with aerospace program milestones.

Location: Hybrid work near Denver or Colorado Springs, United States; some work must be performed on site. The role also requires travel to supplier sites approximately 30–50% of the time. The posting header lists Denver, CO or Long Beach, CA.

Base salary: $105,000–$160,000 per year, plus equity and benefits.

What you will do

  • Lead supplier qualification, performance management, and continuous improvement across propulsion, structures, power systems, avionics, PCBA, and harnessing.
  • Conduct technical audits, capability and risk assessments, supplier qualification programs, and first article inspections.
  • Develop supplier quality programs, including scorecards, quality clauses, purchase-order flow-down requirements, and performance management systems.
  • Lead lean initiatives at supplier sites through value-stream mapping, waste reduction, 5S, and kaizen events.
  • Resolve supplier quality escapes and technical non-conformances through root-cause analysis and corrective actions.
  • Identify supply-chain risks, develop dual-source strategies, and coordinate supplier readiness with Engineering, Manufacturing, Quality, and Program Management.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical, aerospace, electrical, manufacturing, industrial engineering, or a related technical discipline, or relevant equivalent experience.
  • 4–7 years of experience in supplier development, supplier quality, manufacturing engineering, or supply-chain engineering in aerospace, defense, medical, or automotive industries.
  • Hands-on experience implementing lean methodologies at supplier or manufacturing sites with measurable results.
  • Experience interpreting engineering drawings, GD&T, and technical specifications, and conducting supplier audits, capability assessments, qualification programs, and corrective actions.
  • Familiarity with AS9100, ITAR/EAR, aerospace quality frameworks, ERP/MRP systems, Microsoft Excel, and data-driven supplier performance tools.
  • Must be a U.S. citizen, lawful permanent resident, protected individual, or eligible to obtain the required U.S. export authorizations.

Nice to have

  • Space-technology supply-chain or flight-hardware development experience.
  • Lean or Six Sigma certification, such as Green Belt or Lean Practitioner.
  • Experience with additive manufacturing, precision machining, composite fabrication, PCBA, or harnessing.
  • Experience in a high-growth startup or New Space environment.
  • Experience with supply-chain risk management, dual sourcing, SPC, capability studies, or MSA.
