Controller (Biotech)

Location: Emeryville, California, United States; onsite work required

Annual base salary: $240,000–$280,000, depending on experience

hirify.global is a clinical-stage drug discovery company developing therapeutics for protein misfolding diseases through high-throughput synthetic biology, generative chemistry, and AI/ML.

What you will do

• Manage day-to-day accounting operations and oversee the outsourced accounting team.
• Lead monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes and prepare financial statements in accordance with GAAP.
• Establish and improve accounting policies, controls, processes, systems, and reporting infrastructure.
• Manage external audits and coordinate tax compliance, R&D tax credit studies, and Section 382 analysis.
• Partner with People Ops, Legal, Purchasing, and IT on cross-functional financial processes and systems, including NetSuite, Ramp, and Quartzy.
• Provide accounting guidance on clinical trial accruals, procure-to-pay controls, and other matters while mentoring a scalable accounting function.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree and an active CPA license.
• 10+ years of progressive accounting experience, including Big 4 and/or public company experience.
• Biotech or pharmaceutical experience, particularly in clinical-stage companies.
• Deep knowledge of US GAAP, SEC regulations, and SOX compliance.
• Strong judgment, integrity, attention to detail, communication, and cross-functional collaboration skills.
• Hands-on leadership experience driving change and implementing initiatives in a fast-paced startup environment.
