Lead Embedded Software Engineer (C/C++/Rust)

Location: Los Angeles, CA, United States

Base salary: $165,000–$260,000 annually, plus potential stock options and benefits for full-time hires.

What you will do

• Architect and develop safety-critical embedded software for industrial systems.
• Build low-level firmware in C, C++, and Rust for actuators, high-speed sensor data, and fault-tolerant control logic.
• Design control architectures, state machines, and data acquisition systems for mission-critical hardware.
• Own software delivery from development through deployment, including automated build, testing, and validation infrastructure.
• Integrate firmware with hardware, troubleshoot electromechanical systems, and support commissioning and integrated system testing.
• Manage and mentor a small engineering team while remaining hands-on in technical execution.

Requirements

• 7+ years of experience in technical leadership involving architecture, system design, and functional requirements.
• At least 1 year of experience managing a team.
• Experience with C, C++, Golang, Python, or Rust and embedded or low-level systems development.
• Ability to define system architecture, translate requirements into technical solutions, and perform engineering trade studies.
• BS degree in computer science, engineering, mathematics, or another STEM discipline.
• Ability to work extended hours and weekends when necessary.

Nice to have

• Experience with control systems, actuators, data acquisition, or software interfacing directly with physical systems.
• Electrical hardware troubleshooting and PCBA bring-up experience.
• Digital signal processing and low-level communication protocol debugging.
• Experience taking complex systems through architecture, integration, validation, and deployment.
• Experience mentoring engineers in a fast-paced, highly technical environment.
