Software Commodity Manager

Location: Hybrid role requiring candidates to be near Denver or Colorado Springs, with some work performed on site. The position is listed in Denver, CO or Long Beach, CA. U.S. persons or candidates eligible to obtain the required ITAR authorizations are required.

Base salary: $105,000–$160,000 per year, plus equity and benefits.

What you will do

• Own the software procurement strategy across engineering tools, simulation and modeling software, PLM/PDM systems, SaaS applications, cloud services, and cybersecurity platforms.
• Lead sourcing events, RFPs, proposal evaluations, renewals, and award decisions with technical stakeholders.
• Build the software vendor catalog and license inventory, including renewal planning and portfolio visibility.
• Negotiate ELAs, SaaS subscriptions, and professional services contracts covering pricing, true-ups, data rights, and exit provisions.
• Manage vendor relationships, performance, SLAs, billing disputes, license overages, and support escalations.
• Partner with IT, engineering, legal, finance, and program teams to align software purchases with technical, commercial, security, and regulatory requirements.

Requirements

• 5–8 years of procurement or vendor management experience with direct ownership of software or technology sourcing.
• Demonstrated success negotiating software agreements with measurable commercial outcomes.
• Deep understanding of software licensing models, including per-seat, concurrent, token-based, and ELA structures.
• Experience managing software vendor portfolios and license inventories in complex, multi-team organizations.
• Ability to translate engineering and IT requirements into commercial terms and evaluate software contract provisions such as data rights, IP ownership, SLAs, and termination clauses.
• Must meet U.S. Government ITAR authorization requirements or be eligible to obtain the required authorizations.

Nice to have

• Experience procuring engineering or defense software such as MATLAB, Ansys, Siemens NX, JIRA, CAD/CAM tools, or simulation platforms.
• Familiarity with ITAR, export control, and CMMC requirements in software procurement and data handling.
• Background in aerospace, defense, or technology manufacturing.
• Experience implementing or improving software asset management programs.
• Exposure to AWS, Azure, GCP, and consumption-based commercial models.
