TL;DR
Senior Software Engineer, Devices Platform (Robotics) (C++/Linux): Building hardware-agnostic device platforms for autonomous vehicles, including sensor and compute systems, device drivers, inter-device protocols, pipelines, and runtime APIs with an accent on reliability, performance, and real-time system correctness. Focus on designing concurrent system software, integrating robotics hardware, debugging complex failure modes, and developing automated testing and validation tooling.

Location: Mountain View, California, United States (HQ)

Base pay: $160,360–$240,540 per year, plus annual performance bonus, equity, and benefits.

What you will do

  • Design and develop sensor and compute systems for autonomous robotics.
  • Architect and deploy onboard software with high reliability and performance.
  • Build device drivers, inter-device protocols, pipelines, and device runtime APIs.
  • Deliver reliable software through metrics monitoring, automated testing, validation, and vendor collaboration.
  • Debug complex systems, identify root causes of failure modes, and deploy effective solutions.
  • Lead cross-functional sensor and compute projects and mentor software engineers.

Requirements

  • 6+ years of experience with a bachelor's or master's degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related field, or 4+ years with a Ph.D.
  • Robotics or autonomous driving domain experience.
  • Strong C++ proficiency, especially concurrency, and system software development experience from device-driver to application level.
  • Deep understanding of Linux kernel-level algorithmic correctness and performance optimization.
  • Ability to analyze complex real-time systems and communicate clearly.
  • Effective collaboration with engineers, product managers, and other stakeholders.

Nice to have

  • Experience with robotics hardware, embedded platforms, and sensors including radar, lidar, visual, or thermal imaging cameras.
  • Experience with USB, SPI, I2C, UART, and other device communication protocols.
  • Machine learning or image processing experience.
  • GPU programming and low-level Nvidia GPU driver optimization.
  • Linux kernel and device-driver programming, including threading, IPC, shared memory, synchronization, and networking.
