Firmware Validation & Integration Engineer (Robotics)

Location: Hybrid in San Francisco, CA or Oakland, CA, with time split between the office and remote work.

Salary: $193,800–$285,000 USD base salary per year, plus potential equity grants.

What you will do

• Design and build Hardware-in-the-Loop systems that simulate vehicle dynamics and sensor data for firmware and system validation.
• Develop automated test infrastructure and software tools for multiple embedded platforms across the robot system.
• Integrate vehicle controls, power management, and motion control layers.
• Implement low-level test sequences and validation algorithms for batteries, drivetrain, and thermal management devices.
• Collaborate with electrical, firmware, autonomy, controls, and hardware engineers to identify safety and performance edge cases.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s or master’s degree in Computer Science, Robotics, Electrical Engineering, or a related technical field.
• 5+ years of experience in validation, integration, or Hardware-in-the-Loop development for robotics, autonomous vehicles, or complex mechatronics systems.
• Experience designing and building HIL environments using Speedgoat, dSPACE, NI, or custom Python/Linux-based systems.
• Experience with embedded source code, low-level troubleshooting, digital electronics, I2C, SPI, UART, CAN, and embedded peripherals.
• Proficiency in Python and C++ for test automation frameworks and software-based simulators.
• Working knowledge of MATLAB, Simulink, Stateflow, Git, and build automation tools such as Jenkins.

• Experience working in multidisciplinary teams spanning software, controls, and hardware.
• Ability to communicate technical details effectively across engineering domains.
