Firmware Validation & Integration Engineer (Robotics)

Location: Hybrid in San Francisco, CA or Oakland, CA, United States

Salary: $193,800–$285,000 USD annual base salary, plus potential equity grants

What you will do

• Design and build Hardware-in-the-Loop simulation environments for vehicle dynamics, sensor data, firmware, and system-level validation.
• Develop automated test infrastructure and software-based simulators for multiple embedded platforms.
• Integrate vehicle controls, power management, motion control, and other layers of the robot control system.
• Implement low-level validation sequences and algorithms to stress-test batteries, drivetrains, and thermal management devices safely.
• Collaborate with electrical, firmware, autonomy, controls, and hardware engineers to identify safety and performance edge cases.

Requirements

• BS/MS degree in Computer Science, Robotics, Electrical Engineering, or a related technical field.
• 5+ years of experience in validation, integration, or Hardware-in-the-Loop development for robotics, autonomous vehicles, or complex mechatronics systems.
• Experience designing and building HIL environments using Speedgoat, dSPACE, NI, or custom Python/Linux-based systems.
• Experience with embedded source code, low-level troubleshooting, digital electronics, I2C, SPI, UART, CAN, and embedded peripherals.
• Strong Python and C++ skills for test automation frameworks and software-based simulators.
• Experience with electrical hardware systems, board schematics, bring-up, system validation, MATLAB, Simulink, Stateflow, Git, and build automation tools such as Jenkins.
