Staff Software Engineer - Design Systems (React)

Location: Mountain View, California, United States

Base pay range: $202,500–$274,000 annually, with potential cash bonus, equity rewards, and benefits.

What you will do

• Own the technical vision and strategy for the QuickBooks Design System and architect scalable UI infrastructure.
• Lead component strategy, technical specifications, dependency sequencing, risk management, and cross-functional integrations.
• Improve rendering performance, bundle sizes, tree-shaking, coding practices, and operational excellence across the ecosystem.
• Design end-to-end customer workflows and scalable solutions that connect product design with practical UI standardization.
• Improve developer experience by removing technical barriers and creating durable upgrade paths for consuming teams.
• Champion accessibility, AI/GenAI adoption, organizational productivity, and continuous learning across engineering and design teams.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Human-Computer Interaction, Design, or a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
• Extensive experience owning the technical vision for a domain and scaling a widely consumed component library or design system across multiple teams.
• Deep expertise in frontend performance optimization and solving complex problems with impact across multiple teams.
• Expert knowledge of React, TypeScript, Git, Figma, Storybook or similar component documentation platforms, CSS, and the headless UI ecosystem.
• Strong understanding of ARIA, WCAG 2.1+, screen readers, customer research, product validation, and strategic roadmap influence.
• Portfolio or GitHub profile demonstrating professional creative work, open-source contributions, or systems-level engineering, plus experience evaluating and integrating AI/GenAI solutions.
