Location: San Francisco, CA; remote work is available from approved US locations. Employees based in Denver, San Francisco, or New York are expected to work from the office approximately 2–3 days per week. A two-day visit to a office is required for onboarding.
Cash compensation: $163,000–$204,000 in Denver and most remote locations; $197,000–$247,000 in San Francisco and New York. Stock equity is additional.

What you will do
- Execute the technical strategy for the tax product domain and contribute to the broader Tax Engineering roadmap.
- Design, build, and test experiences for adding and updating customer tax information.
- Support scalable software platforms that power first- and third-party products used by millions of businesses.
- Collaborate with Engineering, Product, Design, Data Science, Compliance, and Operations on complex tax and compliance problems.
- Drive product development from concept through launch and improve foundational systems, architecture, design systems, and interfaces.
- Mentor engineers and apply AI tools to accelerate development, improve testing, and simplify tax workflows.
Requirements
- 8+ years of professional software engineering experience.
- Expertise in React and TypeScript, plus experience with Ruby on Rails, SQL, or other backend languages.
- Experience designing, building, and testing production software in large, complex codebases and at scale.
- Strong systems thinking and the ability to clarify ambiguous technical problems and communicate trade-offs.
- Experience applying AI-assisted development workflows to improve development, code quality, or testing.
- Collaborative working style, including pairing and close partnership with product and design teams.
