Engineering Manager, Data Platform (Fintech)

Location: San Francisco, California, USA; Remote

Salary: $290,000–$330,000 per year, plus equity grant

What you will do

• Manage and grow a team of 5–6 engineers across data infrastructure, feature store and ML platform, and underwriting platform areas.
• Set technical direction for warehouse infrastructure, ingestion, Airflow and Databricks systems, feature materialization, model lifecycles, and underwriting pipelines.
• Review designs and code, resolve complex technical issues, and personally lead architecture for high-priority initiatives.
• Own system reliability and on-call operations, including incident response, SLAs, and recoverability.
• Partner with underwriting data science and product engineering teams building on the platform.
• Represent roadmap priorities and technical trade-offs to data science, merchant decisioning, product, and risk stakeholders.

Requirements

• 5+ years of software engineering experience, including 2+ years in technical leadership or engineering management.
• Experience in data infrastructure, ML platforms, backend systems, or similar technical domains.
• Strong knowledge of Spark/PySpark, Databricks, Airflow, AWS, and modern data or lakehouse stacks.
• Experience with feature stores, model training and serving pipelines, model registries, and batch and real-time inference.
• Track record of hiring, mentoring, and developing engineers while building a healthy, high-ownership team.
• Strong judgment, operational rigor, and written and verbal communication skills for working with technical and non-technical stakeholders.
