Senior Technical Accountant (Insurance)

Location: Omaha, Nebraska, United States. The role requires a period of onsite training, followed by up to 50% hybrid work at management discretion. Employer visa sponsorship is not available.

What you will do

• Serve as a subject-matter expert on Statutory Accounting Principles, including codification interpretation and complex transaction guidance.
• Review quarterly and annual statutory filings, financial statements, management discussion and analysis, and supplemental schedules.
• Research emerging statutory guidance, monitor regulatory developments, and communicate impacts to leadership.
• Support statutory audits, state examinations, regulator communications, holding company filings, dividend notifications, and multi-jurisdictional requirements.
• Review investment, cash, and general ledger reconciliations; investigate variances, out-of-balance conditions, and multi-source data discrepancies.
• Collaborate with finance managers, auditors, legal partners, regulators, and senior leadership while improving controls, documentation, and reporting processes.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or a related field.
• 5+ years of insurance accounting experience with significant NAIC Statutory Accounting experience required.
• Experience with regulators, statutory audits, insurance filings, investment and cash reconciliations, variance analysis, and root-cause investigation.
• Advanced Excel skills, including building workbooks, summary schedules, pivot tables, lookups, and logic-based formulas.
• Ability to document controls, processes, reconciliation methodologies, and accounting conclusions clearly.
• Ability to work independently under tight deadlines, including extended hours during close and year-end reporting.
