Director, Physicist/Scientist - Lasers (Laser Systems)

Location: Santa Clara, CA, United States. Relocation eligible. Travel required up to 10% of the time.

Salary: $210,000–$289,000 per year, plus potential bonus and stock awards.

What you will do

• Define long-term laser and optics technology roadmaps for advanced logic, DRAM, power devices, specialty semiconductors, and advanced packaging.
• Lead development of next-generation laser annealing platforms and system architectures for high-power lasers, beam delivery, optical sensing, and wafer temperature metrology.
• Drive proof-of-concept demonstrations through production deployment, technical risk assessments, and architecture trade studies.
• Own laser and optics strategy for released products and lead improvements in productivity, reliability, availability, cost, serviceability, yield, and process performance.
• Lead root-cause investigations, corrective actions, customer escalations, supplier reviews, and strategic technology partnerships.
• Direct outsourced engineering partners, coordinate internal and external teams, mentor technical specialists, and guide laser annealing roadmap execution.

Requirements

• Leadership experience in laser and optical systems development, including fiber lasers, diode lasers, beam shaping, homogenization, optical coatings, sensing, and diagnostics.
• Experience with laser annealing, laser spike annealing, or millisecond annealing systems.
• Experience with high-power, kW-class lasers and advanced optical system design.
• Knowledge of semiconductor capital equipment, laser safety systems, wafer temperature metrology, and pyrometry.
• Experience managing strategic suppliers and outsourced engineering development teams.
• Ability to lead cross-functional work across product management, process and systems engineering, manufacturing, service, quality, supply chain, EHS, and customer engineering.
