Advanced Cryogenic Engineer (Quantum Computing): Leading and improving helium liquefaction, recovery, storage, and distribution systems supporting large-scale quantum computing R&D infrastructure with an accent on reliability, efficiency, and safe facility performance. Focus on troubleshooting turbomachinery, compressors, heat exchangers, utilities, controls, and instrumentation, while implementing root-cause corrective actions and reliability improvements.

Location: US Broomfield, CO; on-site. Candidates must be U.S. Persons as defined by applicable contractual requirements. Due to national security requirements, People's Republic of China or Russian nationals must also be U.S. citizens.

Salary: $113,000–$142,000 annually.

What you will do

  • Lead the engineering and development of liquid helium liquefaction, recovery, storage, and distribution systems.
  • Operate, optimize, and continuously improve a large-scale helium liquefaction and recovery facility supporting R&D programs.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve complex issues involving turbomachinery, compressors, heat exchangers, refrigeration, utilities, controls, and instrumentation.
  • Lead root-cause investigations and implement corrective actions for equipment failures, operational disruptions, and facility performance issues.
  • Improve helium purification, compression, recovery rates, storage, and supporting LN2, cooling water, and chiller systems.
  • Install and commission equipment, support R&D projects, collaborate with engineering and facilities teams, and maintain technical and safety documentation.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree required.
  • At least 4 years of engineering experience operating, troubleshooting, and optimizing complex industrial or R&D systems.
  • Must be a U.S. Person: U.S. citizen, permanent resident or green card holder, or worker granted asylum or refugee status.
  • People's Republic of China or Russian nationals must also be U.S. citizens.
  • Strong engineering foundation in thermodynamics, heat transfer, and fluid dynamics.
  • Experience troubleshooting complex systems and leading commissioning, startup, or performance optimization activities.

Nice to have

  • Master’s or Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Physics, or a related field.
  • Experience with helium liquefaction and recovery, industrial gases, cryogenic, LNG, hydrogen, or similar process facilities.
  • Experience with rotating equipment, refrigeration systems, industrial utilities, or advanced cryogenic engineering certifications.
