Senior Platform Engineer (Platform Engineering)

Location: Hybrid, based in Milton Keynes or Glasgow, with attendance at the office at least 12 days per month. Candidates must have the right to work in the UK.

Salary: £80,000–£120,000 per annum, depending on experience. Additional £6,000 annual car allowance.

What you will do

• Lead the design, implementation, optimisation, and maintenance of large-scale technology platforms and IT infrastructure.
• Plan infrastructure capacity, resources, service delivery, renewals, and new platform solutions.
• Own major incident response, diagnose complex technical issues, and drive root-cause resolution and preventative measures.
• Provide strategic advice, technical leadership, mentoring, and roadmap communication to senior stakeholders and cross-functional teams.
• Manage vendors, third-party contractors, contracts, budgets, and performance across the infrastructure estate.
• Identify and manage technology, regulatory, financial crime, and operational risks.

Requirements

• Extensive experience designing, implementing, and supporting large-scale IT infrastructure and platform environments.
• Experience leading complex technology projects, platform engineering initiatives, incident management, capacity planning, performance optimisation, and scalability work.
• Strong knowledge of server operating systems, distributed systems, platform architecture, system software, databases, and communications protocols.
• Experience providing technical leadership, mentoring engineers, managing stakeholders, and translating complex technical concepts into business language.
• Working knowledge of Agile delivery methods, technology development lifecycles, strategic planning, process improvement, and regulated environments.
• English is required, and candidates must already have the right to work in the UK.

Nice to have

• Strong vendor and third-party management experience, including contract and performance oversight.
• Bachelor’s degree in computer science or a related field, or equivalent relevant experience with professional certifications.
