TL;DR
Head of Platform Development (Backend): Leading the teams building and operating secure, resilient and scalable backend platforms for audio streaming, web, mobile and connected-device products with an accent on engineering leadership, platform performance and operational excellence. Focus on shaping the function's operating model, developing approximately 20 engineers and leaders, and driving reliability across high-scale digital audio services.
Location: Manchester, UK; hybrid, with 1–2 days per week in the office

What you will do
- Lead, mentor and develop approximately 20 platform engineers and engineering leaders.
- Shape the direction, operating model and long-term capability of the platform development function.
- Build a high-performance engineering culture focused on delivery, quality and continuous improvement.
- Partner with Product, Delivery and Technology leaders on roadmap planning and strategic initiatives.
- Drive operational excellence, reliability and performance across backend platforms.
- Own recruitment, succession planning and capability development.
Requirements
- Previous experience as Head of Development, Head of Platform Development or in a similar engineering leadership role.
- Strong backend engineering or platform development background.
- Proven experience leading software engineering teams.
- Experience working in Agile environments.
- Strong stakeholder management skills and technical credibility with senior engineers.
Nice to have
- Experience in media, streaming or audio.
- Experience with high-scale, high-volume platforms.
- Exposure to DevOps, AWS, APIs, microservices and cloud-native environments.
- Interest in AI and emerging technologies.
