Financial Analyst III - Controller

Location: Hybrid position requiring 4 days in-office per week at One M&T Plaza in Buffalo, New York, United States

What you will do

• Conduct technical research and prepare, analyze, and review financial, tax, and regulatory information for senior management, regulators, and internal and external auditors.
• Prepare complex financial schedules, reconciliations, bank regulatory reports, SEC filings, shareholder and Board reports, and internal management reports.
• Perform variance analysis, data interpretation, data integrity testing, and general ledger entries while ensuring timely and accurate reporting.
• Maintain internal control standards and support compliance with GAAP, SEC disclosure requirements, tax regulations, and bank regulatory requirements.
• Identify and escalate risk-related issues, participate in special projects, and improve processes and reporting efficiency.
• Mentor and review the work of junior staff, provide cross-training, and share responsibility for team workload and deliverables.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree and at least 3 years of experience, or an associate's degree and at least 5 years of experience in accounting, auditing, operations, or financial institutions.
• Comprehensive knowledge of finance, accounting, regulatory reporting, business operations, bank products, and the banking industry.
• Advanced proficiency with Excel, PowerPoint, Word, and Access.
• Strong problem-solving, analytical, verbal, and written communication skills, with the ability to multitask and prioritize workload.
• Must be able to work in the Buffalo, New York office 4 days per week.
• Visa sponsorship is not available; candidates requiring sponsorship now or in the future, including F-1 visa holders on CPT, OPT, or STEM OPT, will not be considered.

Nice to have

• Experience in treasury, derivatives, asset-liability management, hedging, or financial modeling.
• CPA certification.
• Experience with data visualization or data querying applications.
• Bachelor's degree in finance, accounting, or a related field and financial services industry experience.
