Senior Backend Engineer (Search)

Location: Hamburg or Berlin, Germany

Salary: EUR 70,000–85,000 gross yearly

What you will do

• Develop a cutting-edge search engine using Node.js and TypeScript.
• Manage extensive data volumes with Google BigQuery and integrate search capabilities with business intelligence systems and the data platform.
• Build and improve high-traffic APIs with minimal latency.
• Investigate the reasons behind search outcomes and translate findings into technical enhancements.
• Collaborate with developers, product managers, QA experts, and analysts to improve existing functionality and launch new features.
• Draft architectural decisions with the Tech Lead and evaluate new technologies.

Requirements

• 5+ years of backend development experience.
• 2+ years of experience building scalable APIs with Node.js, Python, or Go.
• Recent practical experience with a typed programming language such as TypeScript.
• Strong knowledge of SQL or NoSQL databases.
• Ability to write efficient, maintainable code and maintain software quality.
• Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills; experience working in an English-speaking agile environment.

Nice to have

• Experience with Elasticsearch or OpenSearch.
• Experience building data models with dbt and working with MPP data warehouses such as Redshift or BigQuery.
• Experience with centralized logging, monitoring, and alerting tools such as Datadog.
• Hands-on experience with AWS or GCP and orchestration services such as Dagster or Airflow.
• Experience with distributed data processing frameworks, machine learning models, or LLM-based systems.
