Senior Software Engineer (AI)

Location: Hybrid in Kitchener-Waterloo, Ontario, Canada

Annual salary: $144,000–$176,000 CAD; typical starting salary for full readiness is $160,000 CAD.

What you will do

• Build, deploy, secure, and monitor reusable LLM systems across their full lifecycle.
• Lead exploratory R&D initiatives and proof-of-concepts for emerging technologies.
• Provide tooling, reusable patterns, and guidance that help engineering teams ship AI workflows safely.
• Partner with product teams as an AI engineering advisor and support sound technical decisions.
• Identify improvements to technology, processes, and products while influencing long-term technical direction.

Requirements

• 3+ years of full-stack software engineering experience.
• Experience leading significant components or features with minimal oversight.
• Ability to move between exploratory prototypes and production-ready systems.
• Strong judgment when evaluating emerging technologies and their practical value.
• Experience mentoring junior engineers and driving improvements in code quality, performance, and development processes.
• Collaborative, proactive ownership and comfort working in ambiguity and fast-paced environments.

Nice to have

• Experience working in startups or high-growth technology companies.
• Hands-on experience with LLMs, including self-hosting or serving open models, retrieval systems, evaluation, or agentic workflows.
• Experience building platforms or shared services for engineering teams.
• Experience with JavaScript, TypeScript, React, and Node.js.
• Working knowledge of AWS services and continuous deployment pipelines.

Hiring process

• Talent video call, followed by an interview with two Engineering Managers.
• Live coding exercise and a take-home system design challenge with a review call.
• Final 45-minute in-person interview with a member of the Leadership team.
