TL;DR
Database Engineer (PostgreSQL): Designing, deploying, and optimizing relational, NoSQL, distributed, and leaderless database services for the GEMSTONE modeling and simulation SaaS platform with an accent on secure data management, replication, and performance. Focus on automating provisioning and recovery in Kubernetes environments, optimizing SQL and database schemas, and supporting resilient data access across cloud, hybrid, and disconnected operational environments.

Location: Onsite or hybrid in Dayton, Ohio; position listed in Beavercreek, Ohio

What you will do

  • Design, configure, maintain, and optimize relational, NoSQL, distributed, and leaderless databases for the GEMSTONE platform.
  • Deploy and sustain databases supporting microservices in containerized Kubernetes environments.
  • Develop schema designs, data models, indexing strategies, and optimized SQL queries.
  • Automate database provisioning, backups, recovery, replication, and migrations through Infrastructure-as-Code and CI/CD pipelines.
  • Implement data governance, audit logging, access control, and cybersecurity requirements while monitoring database health and availability.
  • Collaborate with software, platform, DevSecOps, cybersecurity, and government stakeholders on API-driven data access, documentation, and operational procedures.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Systems, Data Engineering, or a related technical discipline.
  • Ability to obtain a DoD Secret security clearance.
  • 1–5 years of professional experience supporting database technologies.
  • Experience with relational databases such as PostgreSQL, MySQL/MariaDB, or MSSQL, and NoSQL technologies such as MongoDB, Couchbase, Elasticsearch/OpenSearch, Redis, or distributed databases.
  • Knowledge of distributed consensus, replication, SQL optimization, database design, normalization, and data modeling.
  • Familiarity with Linux and basic scripting in Python, Bash, or PowerShell.

Nice to have

  • Experience with ETL, Kubernetes, containerized applications, distributed microservices, and cloud databases.
  • Knowledge of API-driven integration patterns and the Transactional Outbox pattern.
  • Experience with PostgreSQL scaling and replication, high-availability architectures, DevSecOps, and CI/CD tools.
  • Familiarity with digital engineering, MBSE, modeling and simulation, analytics, AI/ML, NIST RMF, STIGs, or DoD cybersecurity requirements.
  • Experience with observability tools such as Grafana, Prometheus, or Loki.
