Managing Legal Counsel – Employment Legal

Location: London, United Kingdom; hybrid working with office attendance required at least 12 days per month. Candidates must have the right to work in the UK to commence employment.

What you will do

• Lead the Employment Legal function, setting direction, priorities, and standards for high-quality commercial advice.
• Develop a high-performing, inclusive legal team through performance management, capability building, engagement, and succession planning.
• Advise Executive, Board, committee, and other senior governance stakeholders on strategically significant employment matters.
• Oversee employment litigation, alternative dispute resolution, investigations, whistleblowing, complex employee relations, industrial relations, and settlement strategy.
• Provide strategic advice on SMCR, Conduct Rules, Fitness & Propriety, remuneration, senior leader and MRT changes, organisational change, TUPE, and collective consultation.
• Strengthen legal risk management and optimise internal and external legal resources, including panel firms, budgets, controls, reporting, and continuous improvement.

Requirements

• Substantial experience leading a legal team or significant legal practice area in a complex, regulated organisation.
• Deep expertise in contentious and non-contentious UK employment law, ideally within financial services or another regulated environment.
• Experience advising Executive, Board, and senior governance audiences on sensitive, business-critical matters.
• Proven ability to manage complex litigation, investigations, organisational change, external counsel, budgets, and competing priorities.
• Current Solicitors Practising Certificate for England and Wales, admission to the English Bar, a Scottish or foreign jurisdiction equivalent, or a commercial qualification.
• Strong leadership, communication, influencing, commercial judgment, governance, and legal resource-management skills.
