Claim Specialist - Property Field Inspection

Location: Dayton, Ohio; candidates must reside within the listed service-area zip codes and work in the assigned territory. This is a remote-field position with work from home, a mobile office/vehicle, in-person appointments, and occasional travel to other territories.

Salary: $63,089.65–$90,000 annually, plus potential yearly incentive pay of up to 15% of base salary.

What you will do

• Conduct on-site inspections and assess residential and commercial property damage, including accident- and weather-related claims.
• Investigate and adjust personal and commercial property claims with exposures up to $500,000.
• Gather evidence, document findings, prepare detailed reports, and use mobile and desktop tools to support claims.
• Evaluate coverage and policy terms, determine claim validity, and ensure compliance with applicable regulations.
• Collaborate with policyholders, agents, and other parties while providing professional customer service during difficult conversations.
• Negotiate and settle claims within authorized limits based on policy provisions, industry standards, and company guidelines.

Requirements

• Must reside within the listed Dayton-area service territory and hold a valid driver’s license.
• Ability to investigate problems, evaluate information, interpret detailed policies, and make well-supported decisions.
• Strong communication, interpersonal, organizational, analytical, and customer-service skills.
• Proficiency with mobile and desktop tools for documenting claims in the field and remotely.
• Physical ability to walk, bend, kneel, squat, climb ladders, carry equipment, traverse roofs at various heights and pitches, and crawl in tight spaces.
• Ability to complete required training, licensing examinations, motor vehicle record checks, background checks, and possible rope and harness safety training.

Nice to have

• Bachelor’s degree in risk management, insurance, business, construction management, or a related field.
• Customer service experience and knowledge of property insurance and claims handling.
• Knowledge of residential and commercial construction, building materials, water mitigation, and inspection processes.
• Working knowledge of Xactimate and XactContents.
