Software Engineer (AI)

Location: London, United Kingdom; onsite preferred, remote considered

Salary: £70,000–£90,000 per annum

AIWI is an independent non-profit supporting safe and effective whistleblowing by insiders at frontier AI companies through coordination with legal, research, advocacy, media, regulatory, and policy organizations.

What you will do

• Own the full technology lifecycle, including architecture, implementation, deployment, security, and maintenance.
• Build and operate a self-hosted, primarily open-source stack for secure CRM, knowledge management, communications, call recording, and AI model and agent integrations.
• Design architectures supporting air-gapping and decentralized access in a sensitive data environment.
• Develop external-facing products such as zero-knowledge proof solutions, interactive scenario simulators, automated legislation trackers, and news-tracking systems.
• Take prototypes to production, manage multiple projects with different delivery timelines, and oversee website technology.
• Translate requirements from operations, research, and advocacy teams into working systems while managing the technology roadmap budget.

Requirements

• Demonstrable passion for AI safety and whistleblower protection.
• At least 10 years of software engineering experience, including DevOps experience in fast-moving environments.
• Strong systems, backend, and web development skills, including proficiency with Go or other systems languages, JavaScript/TypeScript, HTML, CSS, and web frameworks.
• Python experience for AI and data pipelines, plus experience deploying and integrating self-hosted open-weight models, agent frameworks, and APIs.
• Strong CI/CD, security hardening, cloud, self-hosted infrastructure, and infrastructure-as-code experience, including tools such as Ansible or OpenTofu.
• Excellent project management and communication skills, with a rigorous approach to threat modeling, operational security, QA, and delivery.

Hiring process

• Application review followed by a 15-minute introduction call and a 30-minute call with the CTO.
• Take-home task requiring approximately 4–6 hours.
• Two-hour final interview including task review, competency-based discussion, and meetings with the CEO, followed by references.
