English Curriculum Tutor (Education)

Location: Hybrid, contractually aligned to Cardiff; office attendance is expected, typically 2 days per month, and the role must be carried out in Wales for more than 50% of contracted time.

Salary: £47,389–£56,535 per year.

What you will do

• Teach and assess student teachers on the PGCE Secondary English pathway and related ITE curriculum areas.
• Design and deliver online seminars, maintain learning materials, and teach through Adobe Connect and online forums.
• Mark student portfolios across three study levels, including school-practice reports, and provide constructive academic feedback.
• Lead the English subject area and support programme quality assurance, examination boards, and partnership committees.
• Work with academic production colleagues, regional consortia, local authorities, schools, and other delivery partners across Wales.
• Conduct educational research and manage or train mentors and practice tutors.

Requirements

• Honours degree and a postgraduate qualification at least at Master’s level in ITE or education, or a related PhD.
• Qualified Teacher Status and experience teaching English in a school context.
• Knowledge of ITE and the Curriculum for Wales, including approaches to teaching in Wales.
• Strong spoken and written English, with the ability to teach online and communicate effectively with students and stakeholders.
• Experience developing and delivering ITE-related teaching materials, using ICT for learning and teaching, and engaging in research or scholarship.
• Ability and willingness to travel, live within reasonable commuting distance of Cardiff, and work in Wales for more than 50% of contracted time.

• Ability to teach and communicate in Welsh to a high standard.
• Higher education teaching, module design, assessment creation, and marking experience.
