Director, Industrial Design (Aerospace)

Location: Long Beach, California; Denver, Colorado; Washington, DC; or remote within the United States. Successful candidates should be located near Long Beach or Denver, while remote work may be considered within the US.

Base salary: $205,000–$320,000 per year, plus equity and benefits.

What you will do

• Establish the industrial design function, design standards, and collaboration model with hardware engineering.
• Own the design language of hardware products through personal contribution and team leadership.
• Hire, mentor, and lead a high-performing team of industrial and product designers.
• Visualize new hardware concepts that challenge existing assumptions and expand the possible design space.
• Integrate industrial design into product engineering and architecture decisions from the earliest stages.
• Own design programs from concept through final execution while contributing directly as the team is built.

Requirements

• Portfolio demonstrating hardware projects that were led or significantly shaped, including the reasoning behind key decisions.
• Experience leading designers, including hiring and mentoring.
• Credibility working within structural, thermal, and other engineering constraints.
• Experience in consumer products, automotive, aerospace, robotics, medical products, or industrial equipment.
• For ITAR compliance, candidates must be US citizens, lawful permanent residents, protected individuals, or eligible to obtain the required US authorizations.
• Ability to work quickly, take ownership, and contribute hands-on in a lean environment.
