Product Designer (AI)

Location: San Carlos, California, United States; hybrid with 3+ days per week onsite and remote work on remaining days. All work must be performed in the United States.

Salary: $156,000–$250,000 per year, plus equity.

What you will do

• Own the end-to-end product design process for the pilot assistant, from discovery and research through wireframes, prototypes, and final specifications.
• Conduct research and usability testing with pilots and aviation professionals.
• Translate complex AI-generated data and alerts into clear, actionable cockpit interfaces for high-pressure environments.
• Build and maintain a scalable design system to improve consistency and delivery speed.
• Partner closely with engineering and apply strong product judgment to ship polished experiences iteratively.
• Support brand, visual identity, marketing, and web design as a secondary responsibility.

Requirements

• Experience as a sole or founding designer, leading product design from concept to execution and driving 0-to-1 products.
• Strong product design instincts across research, strategy, and high-fidelity execution.
• Fluency in Figma and experience owning a design system end to end.
• Ability to navigate complexity and ambiguity and challenge briefs to identify the right problem.
• Genuine curiosity about aviation, aerospace, or safety-critical industries.
• U.S. Person status is required due to U.S. export control regulations; visa sponsorship and visa transfers are not available.

Nice to have

• 3+ years of product design experience, ideally with complex, data-heavy, or safety-critical products.
• Experience designing AI-powered products and making machine-generated insights trustworthy and intuitive.
• Motion design, micro-interactions, or basic HTML and CSS skills.
• A strong portfolio demonstrating end-to-end product design work.
