Backend Software Engineer (AI)

Location: Hybrid in San Carlos, California, with 3+ days per week onsite and remote work available on remaining days. All work must be performed in the United States.

Salary: $135,000–$190,000 annually, plus equity.

What you will do

• Design, implement, and maintain backend services and APIs for web and mobile applications.
• Build reliable and scalable production backend systems with senior engineers.
• Integrate internal and external data sources, including real-time and batch data pipelines.
• Collaborate with product managers and cross-functional partners to deliver backend features.
• Participate in code reviews and follow backend architectural best practices.
• Improve system reliability, performance, and maintainability through testing, monitoring, and documentation.

Requirements

• 2+ years of backend development experience, or equivalent experience through internships, projects, or coursework.
• Experience with Python or JavaScript/TypeScript using Node.
• Familiarity with APIs and databases or other data stores.
• Exposure to production environments and reliability, performance, and security fundamentals.
• Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work collaboratively in a fast-moving environment.
• U.S. Person status is required due to U.S. export control regulations; visa sponsorship and visa transfers are not available.

Nice to have

• Passion for aviation and improving air travel efficiency and safety.
• Experience with data pipelines, real-time data systems, or distributed systems.
• Interest in machine learning, data-intensive systems, or large-scale data processing.
• Familiarity with cloud platforms, CI/CD, or DevOps concepts.
