TL;DR
Software Engineer (AI): Architecting, refactoring, and integrating mission-critical Navy weapons-system software into a modern microservices-based tactical platform with an accent on C/C++, Python, distributed systems, and cloud-native and tactical-edge deployments. Focus on deconstructing legacy combat-system code, prototyping AI/ML and distributed-processing solutions, and delivering production-ready software for complex DoD environments.

Location: Hybrid/on-site in Arlington, Virginia or Mount Laurel, New Jersey, with at least 4 days in the office. Ability to travel up to 10% of the time may be required. Applicants must be able to obtain and maintain an active Secret U.S. security clearance.

Salary: $74,000–$184,000 per year, depending on experience, skills, and education.

What you will do

  • Design, implement, test, and integrate complex software using C, C++, Python, JavaScript, and Java.
  • Analyze and incrementally refactor legacy monolithic weapons-system software using brownfield and greenfield approaches.
  • Develop software architecture, hardware and software interfaces, requirements, and specifications for Navy tactical systems.
  • Explore AI/ML, distributed processing, modeling, cloud-native, and tactical-edge solutions.
  • Collaborate with software and systems engineers, customers, and leadership on requirements, design reviews, code reviews, cost, schedule, and technical progress.
  • Support testing and integration at IDT laboratories and government Land Based Test Sites.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience.
  • 0–5 years of professional software engineering experience.
  • Experience or familiarity with tactical systems software and Department of Defense programs.
  • Proficiency in at least one modern programming language such as C++, Python, Java, or C#, with knowledge of JavaScript or TypeScript also relevant.
  • Experience with Linux, shell scripting, Git, REST/gRPC APIs, SQL and relational databases, distributed systems, algorithms, and software design patterns.
  • Must be able to work on-site at least 4 days per week and obtain or maintain an active Secret U.S. security clearance.

Nice to have

  • Experience with AEGIS or SSDS tactical systems and their source libraries.
  • Experience with Azure, AWS, GCP, virtualization, containers, VMware vSphere, or big-data technologies.
  • Experience with Jenkins, Jira, Atlassian tools, Make, Maven, Ant, React, Angular, Vue, or Storybook.
  • Experience using AI coding assistants for code generation, refactoring, debugging, and optimization.
  • Knowledge of MBSE, networking, testing frameworks, and complex mixed-code development environments.
