Software Engineer (C++/Python)

Location: On-site in Arlington, VA or Mount Laurel, NJ, with at least 4 days per week in the office and potential hybrid flexibility. Ability to travel up to 10% may be required. Applicants must be able to obtain and maintain an active Secret U.S. Security Clearance.

Salary: $74,000–$184,000 per year, depending on experience, skills, and education.

What you will do

• Design, implement, test, and integrate complex software using C, C++, Python, JavaScript, and Java.
• Analyze and incrementally modernize legacy monolithic Navy tactical-system software using brownfield and greenfield approaches.
• Develop software architecture, hardware and software interfaces, requirements, algorithms, and modular components for distributed tactical systems.
• Prototype AI/ML, distributed-processing, modeling, cloud-native, and tactical-edge solutions.
• Collaborate with customers and cross-site software and systems engineering teams to refine requirements, conduct reviews, and present technical progress.
• Support testing and integration at IDT laboratories and government Land Based Test Sites while ensuring security, performance, and industry-standard practices.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience.
• 0–5 years of professional experience and familiarity with combat-system or DoD tactical-systems software.
• Proficiency in at least one modern programming language, such as C++, Python, Java, C#, TypeScript, or JavaScript; familiarity with C, C++, Python, and/or Java is required.
• Experience with Linux, shell scripting, Git, Agile development, DevSecOps, REST/gRPC APIs, SQL, relational databases, networking protocols, and software design patterns.
• Ability to decompose requirements, analyze algorithmic complexity, design and test software systems, and work across concurrent assignments.
• Ability to work on-site in Arlington, VA or Mount Laurel, NJ and obtain or maintain an active Secret U.S. Security Clearance.

Nice to have

• Experience with AEGIS or SSDS tactical systems, the AEGIS Common Source Library, or the SSDS Single Source Library.
• Experience with Azure, AWS, GCP, virtualization, containers, VMware vSphere, Jenkins, Jira, Make, Maven, Ant, or MBSE methodologies.
• Experience with big-data technologies, cloud infrastructure, modern UI frameworks such as React, Angular, or Vue, and testing tools such as Storybook.
• Experience using AI coding assistants for code generation, refactoring, debugging, optimization, and root-cause analysis.
