Software Engineer – Backend, Distributed Systems & AI Infrastructure (AI)

Location: San Francisco, Mission District; 5 days onsite. Full visa sponsorship and relocation support are available globally.

Salary: $200,000–$250,000 base salary, benefits, and founding equity.

An early-stage AI technology company building infrastructure and multi-agent systems for the insurance claims industry.

What you will do

• Build high-performance backend systems powering complex insurance workflows.
• Develop production services with Python, PostgreSQL, and modern cloud infrastructure.
• Design distributed systems, APIs, and data models for rapidly growing customer and transaction volumes.
• Deploy multi-agent AI systems that automate operational workflows and decision-making.
• Build reliable infrastructure for large volumes of structured and unstructured claims data.
• Own systems from problem definition and architecture through implementation, testing, and production deployment.

Requirements

• Strong backend software engineering experience with production-grade systems.
• Current hands-on experience with Python and PostgreSQL.
• Deep technical judgment across distributed systems, service design, APIs, data modeling, and system architecture.
• Experience owning complex systems from initial design through production.
• Experience scaling infrastructure, applications, or data systems through significant growth.
• Ability to ship high-quality production code quickly in a fast-moving startup environment.

Nice to have

• Experience with AI infrastructure, vector databases, cloud platforms, Docker, or complex operational workflows.
