Engineer III, Cloud - Platform (Toronto, Hybrid)

Location: Toronto, Canada; hybrid with 2–3 days per week on-site

Salary: CAD 115,000–165,000 per year, plus variable/incentive compensation, equity, and benefits.

What you will do

• Lead backend engineering efforts from prototypes through large-scale applications across cloud products.
• Build and extend internal and external authentication and authorization services.
• Design cloud-based systems that support cyber threat detection and automated cyber threat intelligence production.
• Develop systems capable of processing millions of events per second and trillions of authorization decisions per day.
• Collaborate with multiple product groups, mentor developers, and contribute to technical decision-making.
• Improve architecture, performance, stability, testing, and continuous integration practices.

Requirements

• Degree in Computer Science or equivalent experience with data structures, algorithms, and distributed systems.
• 6+ years of backend development experience.
• Strong experience scaling backend systems through sharding, partitioning, and horizontal scaling.
• Deep understanding of distributed systems, concurrency, multithreading, and parallel processing.
• Experience with engineering best practices, automated testing, peer code reviews, resilient architecture, and continuous integration.
• Legal entitlement to work in Canada is required; employment is Canadian-based and includes background checks.

Nice to have

• Experience leading successful open-source libraries or projects.
• Exposure to Go, AWS, GCP, SpiceDB, OpenFGA, Zanzibar, Kafka, or Elasticsearch.
• Familiarity with SAML, OAuth, SSO, OIDC, and JWT.
• Experience in cybersecurity or intelligence.
