Senior Backend Engineer (Cloud Networking)

Location: Remote within Canada; listed locations include Bedford, Calgary, Markham, Toronto, Vancouver, and Ottawa. Must be able to work in Canada without sponsorship. Travel may be required based on business demand.

Salary: CAD 137,000–186,000 per year

What you will do

• Design, build, and operate secure, reliable, and scalable backend services for Confluent Cloud networking.
• Own features and projects end to end, from requirements and design through implementation, testing, rollout, and improvement.
• Develop distributed systems and microservices with strong performance, resiliency, and API contracts.
• Support service reliability through monitoring, alerting, automation, and applicable on-call participation.
• Collaborate with partner teams on architecture, data modeling, and platform integrations.
• Write tested and documented code, participate in code reviews, and improve engineering practices.

Requirements

• 5–10 years of experience building distributed, highly available backend systems in production.
• Expert proficiency in at least one of Go, Java, or C++, with the ability to work in other languages.
• Experience designing and operating large-scale services with clear API contracts and end-to-end ownership.
• Understanding of networking, operating systems, and storage trade-offs relevant to backend infrastructure.
• Experience with public cloud and Kubernetes or other containerized environments.
• Bachelor’s or master’s degree in computer science or a related field, or equivalent experience.

• Strong networking background combined with software engineering experience.
