Principal Software Engineer (AI)

Salary: $143,000–$286,000 annually, plus performance-based bonuses and possible stock compensation.

What you will do

• Define the technical vision and platform strategy for Stride TMS, Walmart's strategic transportation management platform.
• Lead platform engineering efforts covering scalable infrastructure, reusable tooling, and AI/ML frameworks.
• Drive the full software development lifecycle, including design, coding, testing, deployment, and maintenance.
• Architect cloud-native distributed systems with high availability, fault tolerance, and real-time data processing.
• Provide technical leadership and mentorship across engineering teams while ensuring architectural consistency.
• Translate business needs into technical requirements and measurable success metrics with stakeholders.

Requirements

• Extensive experience in platform engineering leadership and scalable cloud-native architecture.
• Proven experience with software development, testing, CI/CD deployment, and maintenance.
• Strong expertise in distributed systems, real-time data processing, and AI/ML integration.
• Experience applying model-driven design and leveraging AI agents in software solutions.
• Bachelor's degree in a relevant computer science or software engineering field plus 5 years of related experience, or 7 years of related experience.
• Strong technical judgment, architectural planning, collaboration, communication, and mentoring skills.

Nice to have

• Master's degree in computer science, computer engineering, computer information systems, software engineering, or a related field.
• Knowledge of WCAG 2.2 AA, assistive technologies, and digital accessibility best practices.
