Principal Software Engineer (AI-Native Architecture)

Location: Ghent, Belgium; hybrid with 2–3 days in the office required

What you will do

• Drive architectural direction and long-term technical strategy for the Discovery platform.
• Build code, prototypes, and deliverables while solving complex technical problems.
• Improve platform scalability, reliability, correctness, and discovery accuracy across large-scale and variable data environments.
• Establish cross-team technical coherence through design reviews, RFCs, alignment, and technical influence.
• Define and evolve AI-native engineering practices across coding, testing, protocol reverse-engineering, documentation, and system design.
• Partner with product, infrastructure, and business stakeholders, mentor engineers, and raise the technical bar across engineering.

Requirements

• 10+ years of software engineering experience with progression into architecture and technical leadership.
• Proven cross-team impact, including influencing architecture, driving adoption, and improving outcomes.
• Strong production experience with distributed systems and backend development in large-scale, variable, or partial-data environments.
• Strong networking fundamentals and a solid understanding of data modeling, APIs, and service-oriented architectures.
• Practical AI fluency, including daily use of AI tools and the ability to validate correctness, security, and limitations.
• Availability for hybrid work in Ghent, Belgium, including 2–3 office days per week.

Nice to have

• Experience with .NET, C#, Rust, Go, or Java.
• Deep protocol-level knowledge and experience with discovery or scanning systems.
• CI/CD, containerized workloads, platform engineering, or infrastructure-as-code experience.
• Experience with OT, IoT, medical, on-premise, or air-gapped environments.
• High-throughput service design experience.
