Senior Python Engineer (Backend & Data)

Location: Hybrid in Oakland, California, with on-site presence Tuesday through Thursday

Salary: $140,000–$190,000 per year

What you will do

• Design, develop, and maintain scalable, secure backend systems, data pipelines, and high-performance APIs with Python and FastAPI.
• Lead data migration initiatives using tools such as Dagster and DuckDB while maintaining operational continuity.
• Architect and manage Microsoft Azure cloud infrastructure for containerized services and data-intensive workflows.
• Integrate AI-hosted chatbots and LLM-driven tools into cloud-native analytical systems.
• Partner with Product and Delivery teams to turn business needs into production-ready features.
• Drive technical architecture, system versioning, and technical debt reduction.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical field.
• 5–7 years of professional full-time software engineering experience.
• Strong proficiency in Python and backend development with FastAPI.
• Experience with PostgreSQL, cloud computing, and Docker; Azure is preferred, with AWS or GCP also considered.
• Experience building high-performance APIs, designing data-intensive systems, and managing complex migrations.
• Ability to work on-site in Oakland from Tuesday through Thursday as part of the hybrid schedule.

Nice to have

• Experience in energy systems, carbon analytics, sustainability, or healthcare.
• Early-stage startup or new venture experience.
• Familiarity with Dagster, DuckDB, Terraform or Bicep, and AI/LLM integrations.
