Senior Backend Engineer (Python)

Location: Hybrid in Santa Clara, California, United States. In-office attendance is required on Mondays and Wednesdays each week.

Salary: $150,000–$200,000 annually.

What you will do

• Own and scale distributed ingestion and job systems supporting full loads and incremental synchronization across multiple tenants and data sources.
• Design the multi-tenant data platform, including the canonical data model, serving and query layer, and service contracts.
• Build systems for high concurrency, low latency, cost efficiency, and correctness during failures.
• Own service reliability and observability through instrumentation, tracing, SLOs, and operational monitoring.
• Extend ingestion through clean, source-pluggable adapter contracts.
• Partner with the SVP of Engineering on data architecture, schema evolution, survivorship, and entity resolution.

Requirements

• 5+ years of experience building production backend and distributed systems.
• Deep ownership of high-throughput data pipelines, job or workflow systems, or multi-tenant data platforms.
• Strong current Python skills and experience writing and reviewing production code; TypeScript is a plus.
• Strong understanding of concurrency, idempotency, consistency, partitioning, retries, and failure recovery.
• Experience developing and operating cloud-native containerized services with queues, workers, object storage, and relational databases at scale.
• Strong relational data modeling and SQL skills, with production schema ownership and evolution experience.

Nice to have

• Experience with Salesforce or other large enterprise data sources, including Bulk 2.0, REST, Pub/Sub, or CDC.
• Experience with multi-tenant isolation, Postgres RLS, master-data management, entity resolution, survivorship, or watermark-based incremental synchronization.
• Experience with Temporal, Inngest, Langfuse, or Braintrust.
• Founder, founding-engineer, or data platform 0-to-1 experience.
