Staff Software Engineer - Test Systems & Tooling

Location: United States — Remote

Salary: $212,000–$278,250 depending on experience and location; eligible for hirify.global’s equity plan.

What you will do

• Design and evolve tooling for production-like test cells that reflect production topology, configuration, and behavior.
• Build workload generation, multi-tenant testing, stress testing, load testing, and traffic replay capabilities.
• Create repeatable tools for latency injection, dependency faults, resource exhaustion, degraded-state recovery, and region-level failure scenarios.
• Identify high-impact system-level testing gaps and integrate repeatable validations into continuous and release testing.
• Develop shared libraries, test harnesses, and self-service patterns for system and integration testing.
• Lead cross-team initiatives, mentor engineers, and collaborate with Cloud/Infrastructure, Reliability, Release Engineering, and product teams.

Requirements

• Strong software engineering fundamentals and experience building and operating production-quality platforms, infrastructure, developer tooling, or distributed systems.
• Demonstrated technical leadership across ambiguous, cross-team initiatives and delivery of durable systems.
• Experience designing for observability, debuggability, and operational readiness, including metrics, logs, tracing, safe rollouts, and failure analysis.
• Ability to collaborate across Cloud/Infrastructure, Reliability, Release Engineering, and product teams.
• Strong written communication skills for design documents, testing strategies, and technical documentation.

Nice to have

• Experience with chaos engineering, fault injection, workload replay or shadowing, performance testing, or multi-tenant testing strategies.
• Experience building internal platforms, self-service environments, and shared engineering frameworks.
• Familiarity with engineering and system outcome metrics such as signal quality, coverage gaps, incident-to-coverage time, and adoption.
